Scaffolding erected for the rebuilding of Temple Bar

The Temple Bar is an ancient monument and was a gateway to the City of London, sited in Fleet St in 1672, it was subsequently moved in 1878 to Theobald Park because the arches were to small for the flow of traffic. The Corporation of London decided to bring it back to the city and employed Cathedral Works Organisation to do the job.

Hud Scaffolding were employed by Cathedral Works Organisation to provide an access scaffold, a temporary roof and hoisting system to rebuild the Temple Bar stone by stone, all numbered so as not to make a mistake.

It was quite a complex scaffold as it had to be 100% erected before the rebuild began, so the position of the scaffold was crucial.

It needed to be in the exact right place as the stone work was built.

It was also free standing and self supporting.
